Competitions related to chip design
Chip design competitions give school pupils, trainees, and students the opportunity to contribute their creativity, learn new things, and put their own ideas into practice. They are an ideal introduction to the world of microelectronics and also offer valuable practical experience.
Student competitions in particular make it possible to celebrate initial successes and gain a playful insight into chip development. For students, more challenging formats are an opportunity to deepen their knowledge, build networks, and seek exchange with experts from science and industry.
Chipdesign Germany actively supports these initiatives and contributes to supporting young talent on their path to microelectronics.
Invent a Chip

Participants have the opportunity to develop and submit an exciting project in the field of microelectronics and artificial intelligence. The best submissions receive attractive prizes and the opportunity to present their projects at national events.
Information about the competition
OCDCpro Chipdesign-Wettbewerb
With the Chips Act, the EU is pursuing the goal of becoming more independent in the field of semiconductor technology. This requires not only research and industry, but also highly trained specialists. The BMFTR-funded project DI-OCDCPro is therefore developing a chip design competition for students. The goal is to inspire young talent in semiconductor and chip development and thus strengthen the next generation.
Open-source approaches play a central role: the open-source toolchain used enables barrier-free access and creates a learning and competition platform that promotes education, innovation, and technological sovereignty in equal measure. In addition to students, teachers also benefit, as accompanying teaching and learning concepts for universities are being developed as part of the project.
Winners of the competition will have the opportunity to have their chip designs manufactured industrially. With the support of industry partners, the competition is set to take place annually in the future, with new design tasks each year inspiring young people to pursue a career in the chip industry and research.
