Summer Schools
Summer schools offer students, doctoral candidates, and industry professionals the opportunity to engage intensively with current topics in chip design. In addition to lectures by experts from research and industry, the focus is on practical exercises, networking, and exchange with the community.
Many members of the Chipdesign Germany network regularly organize summer schools. Chipdesign Germany actively supports these initiatives and helps to ensure that knowledge, experience, and connections are shared and strengthened within the community.
ISSOM
The International Summer School on Microelectronics (ISSOM) is aimed at students and young researchers who want to deepen their knowledge in the field of microelectronics. The focus is on the life cycle of a chip – from the idea to its application in practical scenarios. Participants benefit from lectures and hands-on sessions, get to know experts from science and industry, and gain insights into fields such as medical technology, artificial intelligence, and the automotive sector. ISSOM also offers an ideal opportunity to network with students and professionals from all over the world.

HeiChips
The HeiChips Summer School is organized by Heidelberg University and is building on the successful FPGA-Ignite Summer School series, but expands the focus far beyond FPGAs to the entire field of microelectronics. HeiChips is a week-long event featuring exciting lectures, networking opportunities, and a hackathon where participants design their own chip. This chip is then implemented in the IHP 130nm BiCMOS open source PDK in a tape-out-ready format.

Test engineering and back-end IC development
The Test Engineering Summer School aims to get students excited about testing and bring them together with relevant companies. To this end, the program includes specialist lectures and presentations on internship opportunities, thesis topics, and job openings. During the breaks and especially in the evening, participants will have the opportunity to exchange ideas with company representatives in a relaxed atmosphere.
