As an independent organization, edacentrum shapes research and development for consistent design methodologies along the entire value chains of various application fields. In this role, edacentrum is a recognized innovation accelerator for the semiconductor and microelectronics industry and its user industries.

edacentrum initiates, coordinates, and supports industry-driven, publicly funded R&D projects in the field of EDA, which is essential for microelectronics. This encompasses both the classical meaning of "Electronic Design Automation" and the broader sense of "Electronics, Design, and Applications." The organization offers a wide range of services, such as project management for these R&D projects. As part of this mission, edacentrum coordinates the national network "Chipdesign Germany." Furthermore, it organizes the pooling of existing EDA expertise from industry and German research institutions. To this end, it provides innovative technical solutions for exchange and cross-company collaboration.

edacentrum consolidates the interests of industry and science regarding new challenges in the field of designing microelectronic components and systems (chip design) and their applications. To achieve this, it coordinates industry-specific working groups, organizes its own annual specialist conferences—the edaWorkshop and the edaForum—and maintains platforms for target-group-specific services and public relations.
