DI-Meta-X
Open-Source Data Format for Free Access to Industrial Semiconductor Manufacturing
DI-Meta-X defines an open-source data format for free access to industrial semiconductor manufacturing. Standardized interfaces to foundries are a key element of an open chip design ecosystem.
Objectives and Approach
The project develops open-source tools for designing digital circuits and MEMS sensors, including an open data format for comprehensively describing PDK design rules and components for automated synthesis with optimized energy consumption and tamper protection. Results are demonstrated using a MEMS-based inertial sensor and a mixed-signal ASIC.
Innovations and Perspectives
The project closes key gaps in the open-source design process and improves industrial suitability and automation of open-source design chains. The open data format enables shorter development cycles and lower barriers to chip design, particularly for SMEs and education.
