Working groups
Chipdesign Germany relies on working groups that are either permanently established or set up on an ad hoc basis as needed. These working groups are the backbone of the network and drive it forward through the active participation of its members. A bottom-up strategy is pursued, with initiatives for working groups usually coming from member companies and institutions. The main objective of these working groups is to develop chip design innovations in joint workshops.
The network's administrative office provides organizational support for these initiatives.

Goal and strategy
The initiative "Chipdesign Germany", funded by the BMFTR, aims to strengthen chip design in Germany and thus increase Germany's innovation and competitiveness. Chipdesign Germany aims to become the central national platform for pre-competitive, open exchange between all players in chip design. Within the European chip design ecosystem, strategies are to be developed together with all stakeholders. The goal is to enable Germany and Europe to once again independently and economically design and manufacture circuits - for the German economy, from start-ups to large corporations.
Participation in work groups
Special working groups on relevant chip design topics will be set up, with organizational support provided by the network's administrative office. They will consist of representatives from industry, academia, and professional associations. Chipdesign Germany invites you to join the network and play an active role in shaping its topics and content by participating in these working groups!

Tasks of the working groups
Within their areas of expertise, the working groups will develop strategies for strengthening chip design capabilities based on the initial situation, prepare position papers, and formulate corresponding recommendations for action to politicians, scientists, and industry. Due to the national and European significance and position of the Chipdesign Germany network, the results of the working groups will achieve a high level of visibility.
The working groups are thus intended to become a central component and driving force of the network. They offer a wide range of opportunities for professional exchange, expanding expertise, and collaboration. In the working groups, committed stakeholders collaborate in an open and creative atmosphere, benefiting from diversity and flexibility within results-oriented structures – all while building national networks.

The network and its working groups thrive thanks to dedicated members who contribute their expertise, contacts, and interests to the strategic development of chip design and microelectronics in Germany.
- Get involved and help shape the network through your commitment,
- contribute your expertise to the development of strategic recommendations for action, e.g., for politics and industry,
- engage in direct exchange with other members on topics of interest to you in the working groups.
- receive first-hand information and discussed strategies at the networking events.
Work groups and their content
Two topics emerged early on as particularly important and urgent during discussions with industry and academia, prompting the establishment of dedicated working groups:
With the increasing integration of electronics into all areas of life and work, there is a growing demand for these systems to be not only powerful, but also secure, transparent, and reliable. A dedicated working group within the Chipdesign Germany network is addressing this complex issue:
The working group Roadmaps and Research Needs focuses on identifying research needs from an industry perspective.
The following two topics are important components of the work of the Chipdesign Germany network and are therefore planned to be addressed by corresponding working groups:
- Working Group Science Communication
- Working Group Development of Design Infrastructure / Design Platform
Additional working groups may be established as needed.
General conditions for the work groups
- Dates: Working group meetings should take place approximately every six weeks (in person if necessary).
- Organization: Meetings are organized by the network's administrative office in consultation with the working group leader (date, preparation, minutes).
- Transparency: The working groups report to each other and within the network approximately twice a year in so-called cooperation workshops and publicly at the annual "Forum Chipdesign Germany."
- Events: With support from the office, working groups can organize additional events for their target groups.
- Science communication: The working group's external communication via a website, press relations, and social media is supported by the administrative office.
- Requirements for participation: Active and continuous participation.
Long-term perspective
After the initial funding period, the goal is to consolidate the network and secure its long-term operation through self-funding. The working groups are being established from the outset with this long-term plan in mind.
